By Jason
first a quick little background on myself, I collect foam dart guns that look slightly realistic then paint them to look real so this isn't my first dart gun. Once I saw Buzz Bee made a bolt action rifle that shot foam darts I had to get it and check it out.I'm very happy with mine, I've had mine for about 2 months, it's small light weight and fires very well. Only problem I have had with it was it jams up depending on which kinda darts you use. If you use the standard buzzbee darts you should be fine. I tried using nerf darts but they jam more than they fire. nice gun thou overall probably the only dart gun out there that actually looks like and operates like a bolt action sniper rifle, so go out and pick one up!!Pros:Looks like a small sniper rifleOperates like a sniper rifleCan hold 6 spare darts (two on the side, and 4 in the stock)Easy to load, Pretty easy to cockCons:The 2 spare darts on the side fall off very easilyDoesn't use shells or eject them after firing

I started loving the BuzzBee brand when the development of Nerf brand guns stalled and BuzzBee was coming out with all these new, wonderful and exciting new guns. They are all exceptionally well engineered and fun to play with and this one is no exception.First impression when I got this gun is that it's much smaller than I thought. Only 20 inches long. It's a single shot, and doesn't shoot very far. That's all the bad stuff out the way, but read on, the total is more than the sum of it's parts.First of all, it is meticulously engineered. It's even patented in 3 countries. I don't know how much it costs to patent overseas but it costs a lot here. When you look over the gun, you see how much detail goes into it, there is fake wood grain on the stock and the front, and fake screws and other accent details. Just like the bullet holder in the stock, it's an extra thoughtful detail. And I have to laugh at the warning on the box "This product maybe mistaken for an actual firearm by the police", yeah, only if the police are drunk or blind! The bolt action is sooo neat! You're supposed to just put a bullet in the chamber and close the bolt - there is even a piece of plastic in front of the chamber that holds the bullet in place and this piece of plastic slides down when you pull the trigger. But like so many of these guns, after I fiddled around with it I found that jamming is non existent when instead of just putting the bullet in the chamber, you tamp down the bullet onto the firing pin. This way you get 100% fire, it's a little bit more work, but worth it to the enthusiast.Face it, in a real fight, you just pick something with a lot of rounds that's easy to shoot and blast away. But this Hunter isn't about that, I'd never pick this in a real fight. This gun is about fun, just loading each round and shooting it off is a pleasure in itself. It's a sensual pleasure, you caress the gun, pull the bolt back to hear the click action and fire and do it again, and just for that I have to give it 5 stars - more if I could. I wish they could make a bigger version of it. Anyway, I love it!

I have long regarded, and to an extent still regard, the line of Air Blasters products manufactured by BuzzBee Toys as cheap knockoffs of the Nerf line from Hasbro. But when I came across the first and only bolt-action air-blaster/nerf weapon I've ever seen in a Big Lots one day, I couldn't resist. Besides, it only cost $8 there and I doubt it ever sells for much more than that.As you'll surely notice on the cardboard packaging, that it operates on a bolt-action system is one of the Hunter's biggest selling points. You might ask, "Is that it's *only* selling point?" and that is a good question, one I actually thought of myself. Ultimately, the answer is mostly yes. If that doesn't interest you at all, I doubt much else about the weapon will. But another notable feature of the Hunter is its ability to carry 6 rounds attached, 2 clipped on the right side and four more in a boasted hidden compartment in the stock. The Hunter is capable of firing Nerf standard (suction), Nerf Whistler, and Air Blasters standard (suction) rounds. I know, having tested all of them, that the Hunter operates best with rounds made by the company that made it. Air Blasters rounds are slightly smaller and better fit when loading into the Hunter. The bolt-action mechanism is remarkably durable and fun to operate. Taking hold of the bolt and pulling it back until the weapon locks, you then leave the bolt set back and the chamber open. Loading in a single round, you can either make sure it is set into the bolt's provided space for loading a round or simply set it into the chamber and close the bolt up again. Simply dropping a round in there, especially with Nerf rounds, provokes weapon jams. I recommend setting each round carefully into the loading space, making sure it is properly fit and secured. Secured rounds don't jam as much. The Hunter has a tab just ahead of the orange bolt mechanism, that seems to drop down and allow a round to be fired. But things can go wrong and rounds can get stuck. A lot. Try not to use Nerf rounds when you can avoid it, since the Hunter is optimized for Air Blasters rounds and won't do you much good in a firefight if it jams all the time.Effective range and firing speed are limited, and even when loaded properly misfires and james occur with frustrating frequency. The build quality simply isn't the same as Nerf weapons. But under the best conditions- proper loading with Air Blasters rounds- the Hunter can hit targets 5-10 feet away with remarkable consistency, if used in large numbers it could be devastating. In firing some 18 rounds at a target 22 feet away, 8 hit and 10 missed, and the farther you are away the more you need to raise the Hunter's barrel to hit it, making aiming at range more difficult. One advantage it has over mostly-superior Nerf weapons is the fact that it doesn't use a cumbersome magazine nor shells that have to be kept track of. With the Hunter, you can fire as many dart rounds as you have with you.Altogether, despite its shortcomings, the Hunter is an inexpensive and enjoyable foam dart weapon. Educational value is likely minimal with most Nerf and Air Blasters products, but this one is at least average, since with it you can instruct someone in loading, aiming, and firing as well as the use of a stock and the 'barrel tap' bayonet substitute in close up fighting. It's not as educational as a book on Michael Collins, but is surely more educational than the rubbish on Cartoon Network. Despite its shortcomings, I can confidently recommend it.A final note- this weapon is only a good value if it is at about $15 or less. Much more than that, it starts getting into the price range of newer better weapons and I wouldn't recommend it then. I suggest looking for it at a discount store like Big Lots, where I found the one I have for $8.
